“You might not have heard of Widows, but that’s ok. After talking with them for a solid hour in what was supposed to be a 20 minute interview, what I can tell you with an unassailable degree of certainty is that you’re missing out on two of the headiest and unconventional people working in music today.” – MagneticMag.com

The forthcoming release from Earnest Endeavours is the eponymous debut EP from the cult NYC / LA experimental duo, Widows. The regular partnership of MC and producer / DJ – that be Jimmy Jams and Bobby Evans (respectively) – is celebrated, supported yet warped and twisted within a wildly creative EP of drums, raps and electronics that sounds like the future but uncannily like a distant past. Utopian, poetic, bass-driven music underpinned by the utter freedom of creative expression.

In a previous life Jimmy Jams and Bobby Evans were known as Brother Reade, the beloved LA local DIY heroes who even Pitchfork liked (their BR full length “Rap Music” got a 7.4). Brother Reade were the rap group that ran with No Age, Warpaint & Teenage Teardrops whilst also supporting Clipse and Wu-Tang and remixing Neon Neon and Delicious Vinyl’s vintage catalogue.

But Brother Reade was laid to rest when they felt the music had outgrown the project. They had had their major label deal. They had that MTV video. They had ruled LA as Brother Reade. To find new inspiration the duo decided to write new material on solely two drum kits. And this collection of thunderous rhythms inspired the birth of Widows. The drums were their creative interim inspiration. The “Widows” EP is an evolution of that pounding ephemeral state – a fully fledged statement of intent. Bizarrely beautiful drums and stories.

Which brings us to Thursday 24th May 2012 where we will be introducing Widows to London with two very special performances.

Widows & Aerosyn-Lex EE gallery show, where Widows will be performing the previously unheard and unseen drum installation / performance, supported by a backdrop of pen & ink, calligraphic new works by Earnest Endeavours art director, Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic. The live experience still can’t be bootlegged and we want to celebrate that physical snapshot of creative inspiration. This is what inspired Widows and Earnest Endeavours. And we’re not live streaming. You have to be there.

Since the inception of EE Aerosyn-Lex’s designs and artworks has defined the label and this will be the first showing of his work in the UK. Aerosyn-Lex is also currently one of the Beck’s US Art Labels artists alongside M.I.A, Geoff McFetridge and more.

Aerosyn-Lex has exhibited in NYC, Tokyo, Paris, Miami Art Basel and beyond, featuring in group shows alongside both art world luminaries such as Jeff Koons, Yoko Ono and Shepard Fairey as well as the New York Downtown scene at Kathy Grayson’s The Hole.

The afterparty at EE’s regular collaborative event with Kutmah’s Sketchbook and Hit+Run where Widows will debut their EP and electronics with our very special guest, Detroit’s Dabrye. A legend in the game on Ghostly International and kicking off his first European tour in years at this date. Support comes from the full crew of Kutmah, Darkhouse Fam, Patchwork Pirates, visuals by Chris Shen & Hit+Run live screen printing with exclusive t-shirt designs only available on this night. Once they done, they’re gone.
